Gateway
List every physical level bottom → top, even levels with 0 meters (the riser still passes through them). Tick where the gateway sits (usually the lowest floor / LG).
2 · Design Variables
This cap is the design authority per RS485 segment — set 32 if the meters are full unit-load (⅛-load transceivers allow far more). Floors above the cap get a split-or-repeater choice in the channel plan.
Repeaters are recommended only when they cut the total by at least this much.
Daisy-chain jumpers between meters. RS485 uses one pair, so a 4-pair cable is cut into 4 jumpers per cable meter — the hop length is divided by the pair count. Leave 0 to treat jumpers as covered by slack.

The calculator always buys the cheapest mix that covers every channel — add a variant here (e.g. 16-port) when a supplier offers one.
Quoted only when the design needs more than one gateway.
